Roswell B. "Rod" Perkins was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1926. He graduated from Harvard Law School in 1949. Perkins was President of the American Law Institute from 1980 to 1993 and served as Chair of the Council from 1993 to 2008. An expert in the field of corporate governance, Perkins played a major role in the drafting of the Principles of Corporate Governance: Analysis and Recommendations. The collection, 1983-1993, chiefly includes Perkins' files on the Principles of Corporate Governance project. This series also includes correspondence and subject files related to Perkins' activity as President of the American Law Institute.

Biography/History

Roswell B. "Rod" Perkins was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1926. He graduated from Harvard Law School in 1949. Perkins practiced law in Boston, spending his entire career with the law firm of Debevoise, Plimpton, where he was made partner in 1957. Perkins was President of the American Law Institute from 1980 to 1993 and served as Chair of the Council from 1993 to 2008. An expert in the field of corporate governance, Perkins played a major role in the drafting of the Principles of Corporate Governance: Analysis and Recommendations.

Scope and Contents

The Roswell B. Perkins President Files, 1983-1993, chiefly include Perkins' files on the Principles of Corporate Governance project. This series also includes correspondence and subject files related to Perkins' activity as President of the American Law Institute.
