The Leonard M. Rosen Papers consists of the records of The National Bankruptcy Conference (NBC) Meeting and Administrative Records belonging to Mr. Rosen. Leonard M. Rosen was a prominent American bankruptcy attorney, and a co-founder of the New York firm Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz. . Rosen contributed to the drafting of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, taught as an adjunct professor at NYU and served as chairman of the National Bankruptcy Conference from 1984 to 1992.

Biography/History

Leonard M. Rosen, (November 19, 1930 – April 16, 2014), was a prominent American bankruptcy attorney, and a co-founder of the New York firm Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz. Mr. Rosen graduated from New York University School of Law and co-founded Wachtell in 1965 with fellow NYU alums Martin Lipton, Herbert Wachtell, and George Katz. Mr. Rosen's practice focused on representing key institutional lenders in the restructuring and reorganizations of large corporate borrowers and he assisted in the government bailout of Chrysler in 1980. Mr. Rosen contributed to the drafting of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, taught as an adjunct professor at NYU and served as chairman of the National Bankruptcy Conference from 1984 to 1992. In 2003, he received the American College of Bankruptcy's (ABC) Distinguished Service Award. Mr. Rosen retired in 1997 but remained of counsel to the firm until his death.

Scope and Contents

The Leonard M. Rosen Papers is divided into two series: the records of The National Bankruptcy Conference (NBC) Meeting; and Administrative Records. The first series, The National Bankruptcy Conference Meeting, consists of agendas, reports, minutes, and other related materials collected from the NBC's annual and mid-year meetings. The second series, Administrative Records, contains other materials belonging to Rosen such as correspondence, reports, and videos.
