Biography/History

The National Grange of the Order of Patrons of Husbandry was founded in 1867 as “a fraternal family organization dedicated to the betterment of the American way of life through community service, education, legislation and fellowship” and is the oldest agricultural advocacy organization in the country. The Pennsylvania State Grange was chartered in 1873 and has approximately 9,000 members across Pennsylvania. The records in this collection document one chapter of the Pennsylvania State Grange known as the Davis Grange, No. 1466, which was founded sometime in the late 19th or early 20th centuries. The Davis Grange was based in Eighty-Four, a town in Washington County, Pennsylvania, and appears to be currently inactive. Works cited: “About us.” Pennsylvania State Grange.
