Scope and Contents
A scrapbook bound in decorative, tooled leather with gilt edges was created in England by an unknown person spanning the years from approximately 1880 to 1933. The scrapbook comprises a small collection of works of art including original drawings and sketches, etchings, cartoons, photographs of art works, prints, images cut out from magazines, and a few watercolors. Genres of works include landscapes, portraits, animals, and domestic scenes. Original works of art are included by the following artists: Herbert Cutner, Jack Merriott, Alexander Nisbet Paterson, Samuel Read, Henry de Ternant, and Louis Wain. One drawing of a bust is by a student of Gainsborough. The last two leaves have multiple portraits in ink by Herbert Cutner. Many items in the volume have captions or notes in pencil below the images written in two hands. Some of the drawings are signed by the artists. A print pasted on a card by Louis Wain is laid in the volume.
