The Academy of Stomatology was founded in 1894 with the goal of advancing the field of oral medicine. The Academy of Stomatology records contains the minutes from the Academy’s monthly meetings from 1930 to 1955 and the council meetings from 1941 to 1955 as well as a small amount of information regarding fluoridation of water in New Castle, Pennsylvania.

Nones (1864-1936) was professor of prosthetic dentistry, dental metallurgy, crown and bridge work, and clinical dentistry at the Medico-Chirurgical College of Philadelphia and served as the dean of the Department of Dentistry at the college from 1898 to 1906. His papers include lecture notes, his thesis, and a scrapbook documenting the Stomatological Club of Philadelphia.

The Evans Dental Institute, today known as the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, was founded in 1878 as the Pennsylvania College of Dental Surgery. The Stomatological Society was a professional organization based within the school, active in the middle of the twentieth century, that served to further the knowledge and interests of dentists and dental students. The collection is comprised of papers used by officers of the Stomatological Society to manage the organization. Financial documents, membership applications, secretary and treasurer's ledgers and a small amount of memorabilia comprise the bulk of the collection.
