A. Price Dillont (1871-1933) was a printer who worked for paper companies in New York City and state from the 1890s through
the 1920s. This collection documents his work in the paper and print industry as well as his family through correspondence;
art and advertising work; patent documents; scrapbooks, sample books of blotters, felt, paper, and printing techniques; publications
containing and/or relating to his work; and family papers, ephemera, and photographs.

The collection contains very little original Pound material, although there are six folders of photocopied correspondence
from him to various correspondents, primarily from the period when Pound was institutionalized at St. Elizabeth's Hospital.
Correspondents include Pound's wife Dorothy and an early girlfriend Mary Moore. There are 22 folders of correspondence to
Gatter relating to the early life of Ezra Pound. The balance of the collection comprises Gatter's research material on the
life of Ezra Pound, including some printed material and photographs.

Dorothy M. Buege (1915-2007), née Dorothy Meyer, was a resident of Kiel, Wisconsin who traveled with friends Eunice Becker
and Louise Kissinger from July 28 to August 4, 1940, via Powers Tours of Chicago to east coast locations across Canada and
the United States, including the 1939–1940 New York World's Fair. This annotated scrapbook, compiled by Dorothy, documents
her travels via photographs, postcards, newspaper clippings, maps, ticket stubs, and receipts.

Elihu Katz (born 1926) is an American Israeli sociologist and media scholar who has made substantial contributions to the
field of communication, specifically in the areas of media effects, diffusion, uses and gratifications and reception, and
media events. This primary portion of Katz’s papers documents his scholarly and professional activities at the Guttman Institute
of Applied Social Research, and Annenberg Schools for Communication at the University of California and University of Pennsylvania,
respectively. Materials pertaining to the University of Chicago, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and the Israel Broadcasting
Authority are also present, but less substantially so. The collection is divided into ten series and includes correspondence;
drafts of talks, papers, articles, and books; research notes; conference materials; teaching materials and course documents;
public opinion studies and reports; Israeli broadcasting materials; and biographical documents.

Edward St. John Gorey (1925-2000) was an American author and artist, primarily known for his children’s stories and illustrations
of children’s books, although he also produced adult-oriented work. Sometime around 1977, Gorey established a company, Doomed
Enterprises, to handle all matters related to publication and licensing of his work. This collection consists primarily of
records of Andreas Brown's and the Gotham Book Mart's records relating to Doomed Enterprises, documents relating to the execution
of the Edward Gorey estate after 2000 (for which Brown served as an executor), and other documents and artifacts documenting
Gorey’s public image and legacy.

The Gotham Book Mart (1920-2006) was one of New York City’s most iconic bookstores during the 20th century. Founded by Frances
Steloff (1887-1989), the daughter of poor Russian-Jewish immigrants, the Book Mart became a social center for the New York
literati and a focal point for literary modernism in the United States. Steloff’s successor, independent literary manuscript
dealer Andreas Brown (1933-), maintained the store’s focus on avant garde and small press publications while incorporating
his own interests in postcards and genealogy. This collection contains 91 boxes of material relating to the daily operation
of the Book Mart; correspondence, biographical, and legal material from both Brown and Steloff; postcard and genealogical
material collected by Brown; photographs of the store, its employees, and events which took place there; and manuscripts and
ephemera offered for sale.

Captain Harold A. Budke was a medic in the United States Army, posted in Calcutta from 1945 to 1946. The photographs in his
album document his experiences from his trip to Calcutta, to his service with the United States Army Dispensary, to his day-to-day
experiences in the city, and to his work preparing the U.S.S. Marine Panther to transport GI's and patients from India in
early 1946.

Katharine "Kay" E. Reichert was an Air Force nurse who served with the Far East Air Force in Japan during the Korean War.
After her return to the United States, Reichert earned her B.S. in Nursing Education from the University of Pennsylvania and
then her M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. The bulk of this collection is comprised of photo albums
and scrapbooks documenting daily life and excursions to destinations around Japan. Also included are official and personal
papers and ephemera, yearbooks from Reichert's studies at the University of Pennsylvania, and artifacts such as medical bag
and equipment, military insignias and honors, and door signs.

The Marlboro Music School and Festival Records spans Marlboro’s history from 1950 through 2013 and showcases its influence
on chamber music in America as it documents its growth from a small and informally organized summer school in the early 1950s
to its current status as a prestigious institution that has shaped careers and inspired the formation of numerous renowned
ensembles. The school's emphasis is on the intensive study of chamber music where young and senior professionals collaborate
in a relaxed atmosphere that is removed from the demanding rehearsal and performance schedules that they face throughout the
year. The collection comprises administrative documents, concert programs, printed promotional materials, articles and reviews,
photographs, and audio-visual materials relating to the Marlboro School of Music and annual summer festival as well as the
related Musicians from Marlboro touring series and the Marlboro Recording Society.

Wolrd's fairs and expositions have been held internationally from 1851 and continue into the present. This collection comprises
written materials, memorabilia, and, to a more limited extent, other materials such as photographs and musical recordings
from or related to world's fairs and expositions that took place between 1851 and 1992. Most expositions recognized by the
Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) are represented, as well as many that are not officially recognized by the BIE.
Some non-world's fair events are also represented to a limited extent. While events from around the world are featured in
the collection, it primarily centers on expositions that occurred in the United States.

committee files; financial records; photographs of portraits painted by John Clarendon Darley, Thomas Sully, Rembrandt Peale,
Charles Willson Peale, and others; and administrative records for the Musical Fund Society Foundation, a separate corporation
formed in 1983.

Honda, Shōjō, 1929-

Reverend Shojo Honda 本田正静 (1929-2015) was a priest of the Shin (Jōdo Shinshū) sect of Buddhism, and a former reference librarian
at the Library of Congress in the Asian Division’s Japanese Section. After his death in 2015, Honda’s library was donated
to the University of Pennsylvania Libraries by Tamon Honda. Rev. Honda’s collection reflects both his interests and his life’s
work, with many books on Buddhist (particularly Shin Buddhist) philosophy and ritual, Indian philosophy and world religions,
world history and Japanese local history, Japanese literature, and Sanskrit and English language study. Within many of these
books were handwritten notes, correspondence, photocopies, and clippings, mostly serving as bookmarks. In addition to these
inserts, the Rev. Honda Shojo Collection includes several folders and boxes of archival and ephemeral material. These disparate
materials have been collected and organized as the Rev. Shojo Honda Papers.

The Sophia Wittenberg Mumford papers contain, correspondence, writings, diaries, photographs, memorabilia, audio-visual material,
financial and legal material documenting the private and public life of Sophia and her husband Lewis Mumford. A large majority
of this collection is remnants of Lewis Mumford's papers that remained in their house upon his death in 1990 and were finally
transferred to the University of Pennsylvania after her death in 1997.

Gates, Thomas S.

Thomas Sovereign Gates, Jr., was a lieutenant commander in the United States Navy during World War II, who went on to serve
as the Secretary of the Navy (1957-1959), Secretary of Defense (1959-1961), and Ambassador to China (1976-1977). As a civilian
he also pursued a career in investment banking at the Morgan Guaranty Trust Company (later J.P. Morgan & Co.). Gates’ personal
papers focus largely on his government service, with a small amount of additional personal items. Included are many military
and government documents and correspondence with influential politicians--perhaps most notably with President Dwight D. Eisenhower,
under who Gates served as both Secretary of the Navy and Secretary of Defense. The collection also includes many clippings
and photographs that have been assembled into a remarkable collection of scrapbooks that bring Gates’ service to life.
