The Biddle family has a long history on American land with Quaker ancestors emigrating in 1681 and settling in Philadelphia
around 1725. This collection documents the family relationships, and to a lesser extent, the work and military service of
six generations of one branch of that family, starting with Clement Biddle (1740-1814), and following the descendants of two
of his sons: Thomas Alexander Biddle (1776-1857) and Clement Cornell Biddle (1784-1855). These papers tell the stories, to
varying degrees, of more than 30 individual Biddle family members through correspondence, financial records, professional
papers, diaries, scrapbooks, and photographs.

The Hedgerow Theatre Company was established in 1923 by Jasper Deeter, a New York based actor and director. Located in the
Rose Valley Arts and Crafts Community of Delaware County, Pennsylvania, Hedgerow holds the distinction as the longest serving
Repertory Theatre in America. The Hedgerow Theatre Company records contains a wide variety of materials, from business records
and show materials to member ephemera and photographs. The collection provides both a practical and intimate look into the
workings of this repertory theatre.

Mary Colum (nee Maguire) (1884-1957) was a literary critic known for her memoir, Life and the Dream, the posthumously published
Our Friend James Joyce, as well as contributions to such magazines as Scribner's, The Saturday Review of Literature, and The
Forum, where she also served as literary editor. Padraic Colum (1881-1972) was a poet, playwright, novelist, biographer, and
folklorist, known primarily for his collections of myths and folktales for children, his novels Castle Conquer and The Flying
Swans, a volume of collected poetry, and several plays. This collection contains 20 boxes of material relating to the works
and careers of Padraic and Mary Colum, the management of Padraic Colum's estate following his death, and the life of Emmet
Greene, nephew of Padraic and Mary Colum and executor of Padraic Colum's estate.

first paper and then cotton. This collection of Levis family papers contains a variety of documents including correspondence,

been arranged by the creator of the material, or the Levis family member to whom they most directly relate.

of invoices charged by A. & W. MacKinlay to H & A. Locke or to D. Y. Stewart and Son, two regional businesses. A few pieces
of business correspondence are also included, along with a pair of ledger books which were printed and sold by A. & W. MacKinlay,
but which contain the handwritten financial accounts of two unidentified businesses.

Mark Jan Dresden (1911-1986) was a Dutch-American Iranist who studied Indology. He taught Persian and Old and Middle Iranian
Languages at the University of Pennsylvania from 1949 until his retirement in 1977. Dresden’s work on Khotanese, Persian and
Iranian languages and texts is widely published. This collection, dating from 1930 to 1994 contains correspondence, ephemera,
event files, lectures, financial documents, funding and grants files, project files, research and writing, and personal documents.

Paul Schrecker (1889-1963) was a philosopher and professor. There is little information on Schrecker's life during World War
I, except that he appears to have been a civilian in Vienna. This collection documents a Viennese citizen's home front experience
during World War I. Shrecker saved ephemeral material relating to German propaganda, German efforts to finance the war, German
war heroes and memorialization of Germany's participation in World War I, prisoner of war experiences, and rationing, as well
as election material from 1919.

an author of scholarly works on Shakespeare and Elizabethan literature. This collection documents Schelling's life as a student,
a professor, a scholar, and an author. It also documents the University of Pennsylvania through the eyes of an individual
who was a student and a faculty member over a period of more than fifty years.
