Photograph is in a book with a description beneath ; printed description: "(John, iv:6.)--There has never been the slightest
doubt in the minds of all the authorities as to the identity of Jacob's Well. Looking upon this picture we may know that we
are looking at the representation of a spot where the Lord Jesus actually sat. Here he conversed with the woman of Samaria
while the disciples were gone into the neighboring city to buy meat. The broken columns you see are parts of an old church
probably built here in the time of the Crusaders. This is the parcel of ground which Jacob purchased and gave to his son Joseph.
The well is now seventy-five feet six inches deep, and seven feet six inches in breadth. The diameter of the opening is seventeen
and a half feet. Here Christ gave to the world that marvelous lesson that God was a spirit and sought such to worship him
as worshiped him in spirit and in truth." Some print is visible at lower left of the photograph. See 5427BAI/LVii153CAJS (Voyager
