have a distant view of this village from the Jerusalem road lying indistinct in the midst of the Judean mountains. Now we
are on the very spot that is sacred to the memory of Elizabeth and Zachariah and John the Baptist. This church was built by
the affection and piety of the saints of the early ages. For hundreds of years monks and priests and unworldly Christians
found pleasure in living in the neighborhood of this sacred place. It is about nine miles from Jerusalem. Here Mary came from
