Photograph is in a book with a description beneath ; printed description: "(Daniel, vii.)--In this seventh chapter of Daniel
he has visions of four great worldly empires, viewed in their religious aspects, under the figure of four beasts. These empires
are the Babylonian, Medo-Persian, Grecian and the Roman. We give as an illustration of the great Grecian empire that for a
time ruled the world, a picture of the Gate of Hadrian from the Acropolis in Athens. This arch stands to the northwest of
the temple of Jupiter Olympus, and in the above view we are looking toward the northwest. The building is supposed to have
served no other purpose than that of a sort of triumphal landmark. On the west side toward the Acropolis this inscription
is written over the arch: 'This is Athens, the old city of Theseus.' On the east side is the inscription: 'This is the city
of Hadrian, and not of Theseus."
