Summary: |
Calendar and lectionary, ca. 1450, and gradual from the last quarter of the 15th century, for use in an unidentified Carthusian
foundation, likely in Germany. The gradual has square notation on a 4-line staff, with a custos at the end of each staff.
Manuscript has marginalia and additions, also probably Carthusian in origin, from the 16th and 17th centuries, and finding
tabs of both simple and complex (knotted) construction.

Foliation: Parchment, i (modern parchment) + 227 + i (modern parchment); [x], 1-24, 35-117, [iii], i-cii, [i], ciii-cvi,
[i]; Arabic foliation in red ink, upper right recto; Roman foliation in red ink, upper center recto; modern foliation in pencil,
upper right recto.
Layout: Gradual is written in 7 staffs; lectionary is written in 21 long lines.
Script: Written in a liturgical bookhand.
Decoration: Rubrics in red; alternating red and blue lombard initials; lectionary has ten 4- to 7-line initials in interlocking
blue and red, somewhat like puzzle initials (f. i, viii, lii, lix, lxiii verso, lxx verso, lxxi verso, lxxxvii verso, lxxxviii
verso, xcvii verso).
Binding: 20th-century leather in imitation of medieval binding, with ten brass bosses and two clasps.
Origin: Probably written in Germany (Les Enluminures).
