Goschenhoppen, one of the oldest continuously existing Pennsylvania German communities in America, is a geographic region in Montgomery County. The Goschenhoppen Historians scrapbook collection, circa 1881-1985, consists of scrapbooks by various creators. Most are clippings scrapbooks on local history, but several are of a more personal nature.

"Goschenhoppen is one of the oldest continuously existing Pennsylvania German communities in America. This geographic region occupies a small corner of southeastern Pennsylvania in Montgomery County. The Goschenhoppen Historians Inc., was founded in 1964 in order to preserve the folk culture of this area's earliest immigrant settlers, known as the Pennsylvania Dutch."

Scope and Contents

This collection includes a variety of scrapbooks. Most are newspaper clippings scrapbooks focusing on Perkiomen Valley local history. There are also two Victorian-era scrapbooks with calling cards, colorful advertising cards, and cut-out illustrations. Finally, there are a few scrapbooks with poems and fictional stories cut out from newspapers. The vast majority of these scrapbooks were made on repurposed published books.
