The Patriotic Order of Americans was the ladies' auxiliary to the Patriotic Order Sons of America, patriotic fraternal organization founded in Philadelphia in 1847. Patriotic Order of Americans, Camp 90 and Camp 168 records, 1911-1981, consists of administrative records, correspondence, and ephemera. Most records are from Camp #90 (Tylersport, Pennsylvania), but there are also three minute books from Camp #168 (Green Lane, Pennsylvania).

Biography/History

The Patriotic Order of Americans was the ladies' auxiliary to Patriotic Order Sons of America. The Patriotic Order Sons of America is a patriotic fraternal organization founded "to preserve the Public School System, The Constitution of the United Sates and our American way of life." It was organized by Dr. Reynell Coates (1802-1886) in Philadelphia in 1847.

Scope and Contents

This collection consists of records from two camps of Patriotic Order of Americans located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The majority of records are from Camp #90 (Tylersport, Pennsylvania), and include meeting minutes (1923-1938), correspondence, pamphlets and ephemera, a register of members (with addresses and occupations), a membership dues ledger, and officers lists (1931-1981). The collection also includes three volumes of minutes, circa 1950-1960, from Camp #168 (Green Lane, Pennsylvania).
