The Pennsylvania Society of New England Women was formed in 1899 as a philanthropic and social group for women of New England descent living in Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania Society of New England Women records, 1899-1900, contain administrative and financial records of the organization.

Biography/History

The Pennsylvania Society of New England Women was formed in 1899. Their constitution states that "The objects of the society shall be philanthropy, the honoring of a worthy ancestry and to establish friendly relations among New England Women in Pennsylvania." Their motto is "Yea, I have a goodly heritage." The society is active as of 2012 and meets annually at Strawberry Mansion in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Scope and Contents

This collection contains the records of the Pennsylvania Society of New England Women. These records include meeting minutes dating from 1919 through 1988, member registers from 1899 to 1920, member cards with names and addresses, and member applications from 1899 to 1990. There are also financial records which date from 1899 to 1923 and include treasurer's records and reports. The collection also contains a certificate from the Sesquicentennial of Pennsylvania, the organizational seal, one copper etching plate, and a manuscript with notations by Sarah D Lowrie. Of special note in this collection are the member applications, which cover a century of applicants and include family lineage for each.
