Biography/History

Henry Chandlee Forman (1904-1991) was born Jun 18, 1904 in New York, the son of Horace Baker Forman Jr. and Caroline L Forman. On September 28, 1929, Forman married Caroline Biddle Lippincott in Montgomery, Pa. Forman died on March 18, 1991 in Easton, Md.

Scope and Contents

This collection is comprised of the final draft and manuscript of Henry Chandlee Forman's "Early Nantucket and its Whale Houses." The manuscript describes the history of 17th-18th century Nantucket, including the "pioneers" of Nantucket, the history of the town planning and building, and the early economy of Nantucket, which was dependent on fishing and sheep-shearing.
