Biography/History

Jane Fenn Hoskins (1694-1764), was a Quaker minister, and the author of her autobiography, "The Spiritual Sufferings of That Faithful Servant of Christ Jane Hoskens, a Public Preacher among the People Called Quakers." She was born in London in 1694, and travelled to Philadelphia, Pa. in 1712, at the age of nineteen. As a Quaker minister, she travelled to Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, Barbados, Rhode Island, Nantucket, Massachusetts, New York, and New Jersey. Jane Hoskins died in 1764.

Scope and Contents

This collection is comprised of the single volume autobiography of Jane Hoskins, entitled "A Short Narrative of the Life of Jane Hoskins." The autobiography details her early life, an account of her convincement (i.e. conversion to Quakerism), her passage to Pennsylvania as an indentured servant, her Quaker beliefs and religious reflection.
