Photographer's signature at lower right; attached description: "In front of the Mosque of Mohammed Ali are seen the Tombs of the Caliphs, so called. Really, they are mosques over the tombs of some of the Mameluke Kings. They lie east of the city, and vary in date through 200 years. The limestone is of different hues, and is sometimes embellished with red paint. The tombs are now falling into decay."
