Photographer's signature at lower left; attached description: "General view of the Memnonium from the west. This temple was built in commemoration of his conquests by Rameses the Great of the eighteenth dynasty, about B.C. 1350. He bore the name of Maimun, i.e. "Beloved of Ammon or Jove," whence arose the mistake of calling the temple the "Memnonium." The whole structure surpasses all in Egypt for symmetry."
