Photograph is in a book with a description in French and English; printed description: "Les Bédouins sont aux autres Arabes ce que les Turkomans sont aux Turcs, la variété nomade d’une même race. Ils sont divisés par tribus occupant chaçun une étendue convenue de terrain. Le moindre empiètement amène infailliblement une guerre qui s’étend de proche en proche par l’effet des liens de parenté ou des traités d’alliance. L’Arabie a été parcourue de temps immémorial par ces tribus errantes et à demi sauvages. Le Bédouin est le vrai Arabe et se regarde comme tel. Le poignard et le long fusil à pierre font partie de son costume. Pour vivre heureux, il n’a besoin que d’une tente, d’une femme et d’un cheval." Initials "B+P" are printed in the lower right corner.
