Chronicles, xii: 9.)--'So Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, and took away the treasures of the house of the Lord.' The tomb of Kait Bey marks the resting place of one of the modern Pharaohs of Egypt. He was the successor in the respect that he was one of the last of the independent Mameluke Sultans of Egypt. He was in the line of succession from Shishak, who was the king of Egypt in the time of Rehoboam. This tomb is about eighty feet long and seventy feet wide. It has some fine mosaics, and is thought to be the finest piece of architecture in Cairo. The door has a bronze covering about forty-five feet in height, Kait Bey was Sultan of Egypt from 1468 to 1496. As a general and a diplomatist he successfully maintained his position against the Porte. He was compelled, finally, however, to abdicate in favor of his son, Mohammed, a boy of fourteen."
