Notes: |
Photograph is in a book with a description beneath ; printed description: "(Psalms, xxi:1.)--' The king shall joy in thy strength,
O Lord; and in thy salvation how greatly shall he rejoice!' This first verse of the twenty-first Psalm is accepted as a prophecy
relating to the mission of Christ. We give to illustrate this portion of Scripture a piece of stone work in the synagogue
at Capernaum. This view was photographed on Wednesday May 9, 1894. It was with difficulty that we reached the site of this
synagogue that originally stood in Capernaum, because of the deep tangled mass of weeds and thorn bushes. The relic we see
is supposed to have formed part of the synagogue which was found in Capernaum at the time of our Savior, and in which he delivered
many of his discourses. Christ performed more miracles in Capernaum than in any other place. We are, as we stand in the presence
of this stone, at least upon ground made sacred by the words and deeds of our Lord." "N2" is printed beneath the text. See
