Photograph is in a book with a description beneath ; printed description: "(Numbers, viii:1.)--No view, perhaps, could be in greater contrast from the Egypt of Moses' time than the one given above of the approach to the Nile Bridge. Up to 1863, passage of the Nile was made by small ferry boats. Now we have a bridge of iron 1260 feet long, with stone buttresses. A pair of British lions sitting at the entrance of the bridge bespeak the fact that Egypt has passed under the influence of modern times and modern ideas. Across this bridge tourists now always pass to the pyramids. It perpetually presents a scene of life and color. There are donkeys and camels and carts and carriages going and coming throughout the day.
