Notes: |
Photograph is in a book with a description beneath ; printed description: "(Acts, xxii: 20.)--'And when the blood of the Martyr
Stephen was shed, I also was standing by, and consenting unto his death. and kept the raiment of them that slew him.' Stephen
was stoned to death near St. Stephen's gate, and this gate opens out into the Valley of the Kedron. The Valley of the Kedron
is the most famous valley in the world, situated as it is between Jerusalem and the Mount of Olives. Here are the graves of
kings and prophets. Here David walked, and Isaiah meditated and Jeremiah wailed. Here Christ prayed, and here the Garden of
Gethsemane bears its nurslings of the sky, the beautiful flowers, to remind us that though Christ suffered and died, He lives
again in the grace and beauty and tenderness of the world."
